The story of Deccan Institute of Commerce is inseparable from the vision, dedication and lifelong service of the distinguished educators who laid its foundation and nurtured its growth over the decades.
Late Mr. G. K. Bhopatkar, the founder of Deccan Institute of Commerce, established the institution on 1 June 1918 with the objective of promoting quality commerce education at a time when such opportunities were limited.
In 1929, Late Mr. S. H. Dhupkar joined the institute as a student. Recognising his talent and commitment, his mentor, Late Mr. G. K. Bhopatkar, invited him to join the faculty in 1930, marking the beginning of an extraordinary association with DIC. During the period when Mr. Bhopatkar stepped away from the institution, Mr. Dhupkar carried forward the responsibility of leading Deccan Institute of Commerce single-handedly for nearly a decade. When Mr. Bhopatkar returned after 1940, the institution continued to flourish under their shared commitment to educational excellence.
Over the years, several distinguished educators further strengthened the institution. Among them was Prof. V. B. Kirtane, who had successfully completed the prestigious Chartered Accountancy examination in London and brought valuable academic expertise to DIC.
Another remarkable contributor was Late Mr. V. D. Risbud, whose association with the institute began as a student before he joined the faculty. Through his unwavering dedication, he went on to serve as both Principal and Secretary, playing a pivotal role in the institution's continued development.
The invaluable contributions of these revered educators, our Guruvaryas, laid the foundation for the institution's enduring legacy. Their vision, dedication, and commitment to education continue to inspire Deccan Institute of Commerce as it carries forward more than a century of educational excellence.
